The Multiverse theory states there are multiple versions of the universe, each slightly different from the other. There are many types of Multiverse theory but the most well known is the Many-Worlds theory, the one where in this universe we do one thing, in the parallel universe, we take the opposite action.
Star Trek the original series entered multiverse theory into canon with "Mirror mirror" IMDB in the fourth episode of the second season.
Deep Space Nine has 5 episode in the Mirror Universe Enterprise has a two-part episode and a current storyline woven through the first season Discovery (continuing with a Mirror Universe character in the main cast of seasons 2 and 3), and several non-canon Star Trek tie-in works.
Time travel it would take a very long time to list every episode that the writers fell back on time traveling as a theme for episodes. Why is this prove there is no cannon? time travel paradoxes.
For example when Picard went back in time in First Contact The borg killed and assimilated countless people. The Borg are all killed by data hence all assimilated humans were removed from their time line which is the "Let’s Kill Hitler Paradox" Similar to the Grandfather Paradox. going back in time to stop humans from reaching space would change the future time line where Picard meets Q where the borg were first entered into cannon. plus the blood line of those killed would simply not be born huge amounts of the current timeline would not exist hence any future interacts or conurbation with the timeline would not have happen.
Thanks to Berman and Braga we have the Temporal Cold War and temporal wars in which there is no more cannon timelines of set cannon history. We now have a Star Trek franchise where we can write anything we want. For example in one alternate universe Trip dies in another the Federation fakes his death and is a Section 31 spy. In my version T'Pol in 2161 emotionally distraught by the death of Trip Tucker used the transporter to dematerialize Tuckers dead body then rematerialize him using the last Transporter buffer pattern of Tuckers last rematerialization. which opens the whole transporter ethics thing were T'pol could just simply make three copies of Trip one that is dead one that goes off to be a spy and the third fleeing with T'Pol to the outskirts of the Orion syndicate on the far side away from Federation space. T'pol becomes a Romulan smuggler with a human slave Trip and their augment half breed female child T'Mir hunted for the rest of their lives by section 31. but I digress.
There is no cannon history to argue over now there is just an ever expanding Multiverse theory in which my version of the on going romance still lives on. Blah blah blah....
